About TRIAS

TRIAS is a highly awarded architecture and design studio based in Sydney, Australia. We create buildings that are solid, simple and beautiful. Above all else, we advocate for holistic architecture that is sustainable and timeless.

Since our establishment, we have developed a reputation for industry-leading designs that are thoughtful and thorough.

Our ambition is to advance our industry by creating architecture that is elegantly designed and genuinely responsive to climate change.

Since our inception, we have completed projects throughout Australia and in the UK. Our portfolio of work spans many sectors, but our passion lies in designing and delivering bespoke homes and housing.

TRIAS has been widely recognised in local and international awards programs, design competitions and press. This recognition is for both design excellence and sustainable innovation.

With every project, we strive to create buildings that are grounded in their place, culture and context. Accordingly, our designs quietly provoke change in our cities, suburbs and landscapes.

We partner with clients who seek excellence, and who share parallel values and aspirations.

About Our Team

TRIAS is led by its three founding directors: Casey Bryant, Jonathon Donnelly and Jennifer McMaster. They met while studying at university, where they forged a common foundation of ideals, interests and pursuits.

We are an intentionally small team who work collaboratively across our projects. We rely on our mutual strengths and curiosities to produce exceptional outcomes.

As people, we are passionate and persistent, empathic and kind. These ethics influence our design process, underscore our client relationships, and define our finished buildings.

Making architecture is an inherently collective act, so our team is also supported by numerous builders, engineers, landscape architects, suppliers and designers, amongst many others. We also benefit from the support, insight, and courage of our admirable clients.

Founding Principles

Solid, Simple, Beautiful

TRIAS was founded on three principles: to create buildings that are solid, simple and beautiful. These ideals tie our work to the fundamentals of architecture, which Vitruvius defined as firmness, commodity and delight. To us, these three principles remain inseparable from good buildings. They take precedence over trends and ensure that our work is site-specific, timeless and enduring. Ultimately, we seek to create places that belong, that will last, and that will be loved by our clients and their communities.

Less but Better

Our designs embody the ideal of ‘less but better.’ While ‘less’ looks different within every project, it is a guiding light – for less excess and more value, less home and more garden, less disposability and more durability. The result is buildings that feel calm, comfortable and carefully considered.  ‘Less but better’ guides us to design with greater intelligence and layer complex ideas into a well-resolved whole.

Sophisticated Sustainability

For far too long, there has been a prevailing sentiment that architecture and sustainability are at odds – and that one must compromise the other. Instead, we believe in ‘sophisticated sustainability:’ the idea that the best buildings can be beautiful, comfortable, joyful, healthy, homely and smart. Our studio’s reputation is built on sustainable innovation and design excellence – a rare pairing, but a necessary one.

Sustainability

At Trias, sustainability is fundamental to the way that we work. It is not an afterthought, nor a catchphrase, but a motivation to be more clever, more thoughtful, and more intentional with what we build.

The construction industry is a significant contributor to worldwide carbon emissions. We choose to approach this reality with energy and optimism, by prioritising architecture that recognises our changing climate.
